03/26/02Superstore on Strike in Saskatchewan
Today a province-wide strike commenced in Saskatchewan against Superstore and its Wholesale Club stores. In Saskatoon, Regina, Yorkton, Melville, Estevan, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, North Battleford, Swift Current, and Weyburn, members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1400 reported for "strike duty" at 9 a.m. demanding respect, decent working conditions, and a fair contract.
Company bullies played the same game in Saskatchewan as they have in Alberta, squeezing employees and trying to get them to betray their fellow workers and convince them to cross picket lines; but it hasn't worked! Preliminary reports indicate that the picket lines are solid and the customers are staying out!
