Negotiations Break for Easter, But Continue This Week

Province-wide negotiations for a new Superstore/Liquorstore contract broke for Easter, but both parties expressed a willingness to continue to bargain, for now. "We are still trying to avoid a strike, but we'll be on the street if we have to," said Local 401 Union President Doug O'Halloran, "If it is appropriate, we'll give 72 hours' strike notice…the members are ready to go." Bargaining will continue until "it is time," he said.

Saskatchewan Superstore Strike Receives Overwhelming
Union Membership and Public Support

Business is down as much as 90% at Saskatchewan Superstores, and picket line participation by Union members is overwhelming.

For example, at Superstore East in Regina, 200 of 225 employees had picketed at least one shift within the first 3 days of the strike. A few employees appear to have quit and a few seem to be staying away. Only 3 scabs have been identified and are now at risk of facing charges under the Union Constitution. Management vehicles sat on an otherwise barren parking lot for the days preceding Easter.

Congratulations and good luck to Saskatchewan Superstore Union members!
